Here come the holidays. Lots of fun things going on at the VFW. Come join us for a good time!

The bake sale on September 3rd went great. The committee of Gladys Neal, Betty DeBolt and Diane Nichter reported that they sold out again. Good job ladies and thanks for your hard work.

On September 10th the Ladies Auxiliary sponsored a Steak Dinner, with proceeds going to the Roof Project. Thanks to the committee of Jerry Brady, Sid Fisher, Sarah Elliott, Betty Davis, Bonnie Hall, Pat Febles, Diane Nichter and Marcia Smith. Thanks also to all who donated desserts.

Bonnie Hall wishes to thank Jerry and Dorothy McHenney, Chip Hall and Diane Nichter for helping her decorate the hall for Halloween. We all appreciate your hard work.

Because of increases in our State and District commitments, the Ladies Auxiliary is forced to raise their yearly dues. Starting in 2012 the yearly dues for a new member will increase from $25 to $30 and for a current member from $20 to $25.

We enjoyed having Jill Wilson, Fourth District President visit us at our monthly meeting in October. She answered our many questions and had helpful ideas for us. We welcome you back Jill.

2 cups sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
2-3 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and 2 tsp. sugar.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.
Add milk and stir until dough follows fork around bowl.
Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 1/2 minute. Roll out dough to 3/4-inch thickness.
Spread with melted butter. Sprinkle with 2 tbsp. sugar, cinnamon and raisins. Roll up and seal edges. Cut into 1/2-slices. Arrange cut side down on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
