Come on Spring!

This old Quartermaster is longing for a warm-up. The next two months will include: Nominations for Officers, Election of Officers, the Men’s Auxiliary Easter Party, our snow-birds returning and before you know it, the Buddy-Poppy Sale!

At our last District 4 Meeting at Post 8147, Fort Wayne, our State Commander Rodney Funk, expressed his pride in our district for its’ achievements during his tenure. And reiterated that VFW canteens are secondary to the operation of the Post! “All Posts are to be run as a VFW Club, NOT as a bar!” and “The main objective of having a Post is to properly work the VFW projects.”

That may sound pretty heavy handed. But please check out the VFW Department of Indiana regulations posted on our Club Room bulletin boards. Particularly Article 10. We will be enforcing this regulation beginning in March. Don’t be surprised if you are asked for your Membership Card 15 minutes prior to a Post meeting or an Auxiliary meeting. A member will not be served during the time a meeting is in session. The penalty to our Post for violation of this By-Law is that our Charter can be revoked! Let’s keep our Post a great place to enjoy camaraderie and in good standing with our parent organization!

Our last combined meeting brought out the need for some changes to the Wednesday evening meals. For the next two months, we’re going to offer pizza (two pieces) and salad on the first Wednesday for a cost of $5.00. Need an extra slice? That will be $2.00 extra. We will be discussing Post dinners at our next membership meeting.

Watch for news from our Men’s Auxiliary concerning some kind of kickoff for the summer season and maybe a pre-fall party!

Quartermaster

P.S. Don’t forget to recruit a new member!
