Well, the first quarter of 2013 has come and gone, and I’m happy to see warmer weather once again. As usual, things have been busy here at Francis Vinyard Post 2749 VFW. Financially we are in sound condition with the return of our “snowbirds”, improved weather and upcoming events, our income should improve.

Please be sure to read the Post election results. We’re blessed with members willing to “step up” and see the Post functions well. Special thanks to Tom Davidson, John (Jack) Garrett and George Klink. This is a strong leadership group and will keep our Post a great place for our members and guests.

Remember we have some fund raising and fun things on our calendar for May and June. Our on-going fund raiser, “Energizing Indiana”, helps our communities to become more energy efficient and earns $25 for each “appointment” we can arrange. Post members, Men’s Auxiliary and Women’s Auxiliary are all participating in this effort. Poppy sales will be held on May 10th and 11th to raise funds for VFW charitable efforts.

May 18th at 8:30pm, the Families for Freedom Program is at our pavilion. On May 19th we’ll be putting American Flags on veterans’ graves at several area cemeteries. Come out for the comradery and breakfast at 7:30 am at the Post. Many hands make the task light for all.

On the 27th, Francis Vinyard Post will be hosting the Memorial Day Service at 11:00 am. June 8th, the Color Guard will be in the 150th Anniversary Parade and then we have some “fun” events!

Euchre tournaments on May 11th and June 8th. Mary’s Coney Dogs every Saturday 11:00 – 2:00 pm. May 25th, bake sale and barbeque chicken.

June 1st, Bar Olympics tournament at 2:00pm. June 15th, Flag Day Service at the Elks Lodge. June 22nd, a horseshoe tournament at 1:00 pm with a band starting at 7:00 pm. Let’s get out and have some fun!

Respectfully,

Jim Cook
