Fall is just a few short weeks away, probably one of the best times of the year in Northeast Indiana. Like the coming weather changes, things are changing here at Francis Vinyard VFW Post 2749.

Thanks to Barb Rasler for providing Wednesday evening meals in July and August. Beginning September 5th, we will return to members, Women’s Auxiliary and Men’s Auxiliary teams providing dinners. Check out the calendars for each Wednesday evening menu. Come out and enjoy dinner with your friends and comrades.

Special events include the Women’s Auxiliary Bake Sale on September 1st, 10:00am til gone! The Men’s Auxiliary Golf Outing on September 23rd at Cobblestone. Tee time is 12:30pm. This is a great annual event. Get your team signed up, it’s just three weeks away!

Finally, on September 29th, we’ll have the annual Post Picnic from 1:00¬4:00pm. There will be a hog roast and all Post members and family are invited to come out for a good time. We’re asking everyone to bring a dish to share.

October 13th will be the annual Honor Guard Dinner at American Legion Post 381. Cocktails at 5:00pm, dinner to follow at 6:00pm. Invitations have been mailed to the Honor Guard members. October 27th will be the Post Halloween Party starting at 7:00pm. Bring your favorite Ghoul-friend and party til closing!

Our August membership meeting was a normal business agenda. Financials are steady with no significant fund growth or loss. We voted again on the Post status regarding the State smoking ban. This time the membership voted to be a “smoking” club. Come around and take a look at our smoking facility. Thanks to Jerry Brady, Chip Hall and Tim Ley, our “Butt Hut” is really looking great! Only remaining large task is the construction of a ramp for handicap access. As the facility is completed, we will file our application for exemption to the State mandate and will be visited by our Excise Police to inspect our smoking facility and either approve it our tell us what needs to be tweaked.

Other facility news is that our old roof area was inspected by LA Services and declared dry and ready for the additional insulation that has been planned since the Post roof was replaced. We have over $6,000 in our building fund to complete the effort. Before some of you “sharpen” your pencils, the material costs for finishing the “Butt Hut” interior was offset by an $800 donation from a Post member.

I Think I’ve “gassed on” long enough! See you all around the Post!
