If your business, organization or your family is looking for something special to do this holiday, you might want to consider “Adopting a Soldier.”

Families for Freedom is a not-for-profit group formed shortly after September 11, 2001. We support nearly 100 local Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines from Noble and LaGrange counties. We send gift cards and care packages several times a year: Easter, July 4th, birthdays, and a special package when first serving in a war zone. However, we’d like to send something special for the holiday, since approximately 25% of them may be serving in the Middle East or in other overseas areas during this time.

Our Servicemen and women love to hear from anyone back home, especially at Christmas. A donation of $50 adopts for the holiday and $100 adopts for the entire year. The donation covers the cost of the care package contents as well as postage. We will send the package for you and include your name and contact information, enabling the serviceman or woman to know that you are supporting him or her. Those participating in the “adoption” program will receive information from us about the serviceman or woman they are supporting. Then, if he or she chooses to continue correspondence, he or she will contact you. It’s a great feeling to know you’ve made our troops a little happier this holiday season.

Our group meets the first Monday of every other month at the Rome City American Legion. The next meeting is December 6th at 6:30pm. This is our annual Christmas party and the public is welcome to attend.
