The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2749 was chartered in Kendallville, Indiana on February 12, 1933, with a charter membership of 23 combat veterans. Over the years the group met in private residences, cottages, the Mulholland Tavern and on second floors of downtown businesses.
Built on lots purchased in the early 1950’s, the current Post Home opened on July 26, 1964, built with post revenues, donations and a lot of members’ sweat. The mortgage for the property was burned in 1973.
Francis E. Vinyard, for the whom the Post is named, joined the VFW in West Virginia in 1946 and in 1947 transferred to the Kendallville Post 2749. He served VFW Post 2749 as commander 9 times, Quartermaster 8 times, and as Service Officer for over 30 years.
