Comrades & Sisters:

This will be my last newsletter to you as your Commander at Post 2749. Please welcome your new Commander, Jim McClure and help him as much as you have helped me. A Commander always needs the help of the members in order to have a successful year. One man can’t do it alone. I will still be around to help out with the ticket machines and as the Sgt.¬at-Arms during the Post meetings. Again, thanks to all who helped me during my time as your Commander.

Thanks to the Men’s Auxiliary for doing the Children’s Easter Egg Party on April 23rd. And thanks to Ed Wade for getting the ‘Easter Rabbit’ to appear at the party. Also in April, the dates of the Poppy Days sales were moved to April 29th and 30th this year due to a conflict with the American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary on our traditional dates in May which they claimed for themselves at the sales locations. This newsletter will be printed before the results of the sales are known. Thanks to our volunteers for helping on this. Remember, we are only as successful as our volunteers carry us to reach our goals.

May brings Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 21st. Once again, there will be a Candlelight Vigil at 8:30 pm provided by the Familes for Freedom organization. Please bring a folding chair as we are short of them.

Open Sunday will be May 22nd with our traditional Sunday hours. Also, volunteers are needed to place flags on the grave markers that morning. There will be a breakfast at 8:00 am for the workers and the flag detail will start at 9:00 am.

The Chicken BBQ will be one day only this month on Saturday, May 28th. we will be serving from 11:00 am until gone.

Monday, May 30th is the traditional Memorial Day Service at 11:00 am at American Legion Post 86.
Events in June include a Poker Run on Saturday, June 25th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Chili Cook Off at 5:00 pm and music from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Details about this day will be posted at the Post. The only Open Sunday for the month will be the following day on June 26th. The next Joint Meeting will also be in June on Tuesday, June 14th at 6:00 pm.

The only Wednesday dinners will be on June 22nd and 29th. There will not be any Wednesday night dinners in July or August and they will resume in the fall.

Well, that’s enough for now. General Douglas MacArthur once said that “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away”. I am fading fast as the finish line is in sight.
